Welcome to my blog! A little over a year ago, I endeavored to begin to work at the craft of writing. This began with a lot of reading and studying and spending time actually writing. As a result, I completed a first draft of a fantasy novel I have wanted to write since I was about 13.
After a few months on a more restrictive blogging site, I have decided to take to a more accessible platform to share updates on how the work is coming as I work through my second draft with updates and excerpts from the story.
But who am I? My name is Michelle Bowen. I have been writing stories and building worlds since I was a child playing in the dirt at the ranch house where I was raised in a small town in California. I don’t recall many of these stories, but I do have an old notebook where I would write poems telling stories of pinto bean plants and cats.
Most of the time I spent actively writing was dedicated to poetry, especially during my high school years where I filled a 300 page word document in addition to two spiral notebooks. While I did write a few versions of the introduction to the novel I am currently endeavoring to work into something publishable, there was little more to my writing than what I could put to music.
After a deeply difficult time in my life during which my sister-in-law suggested reading and studying would be a good coping mechanism, I found as I read, I was unable to push away the characters and story ideas that became increasingly vivid in my imagination. And so here we are. I hope you enjoy.
